High5 does not produce 2:1 fructose gel. The use of such a gel has few real benefits for most athletes. The advantage of 2:1 is that you can potentially consume more carbohydrates (up to 90g per hour), but to achieve this you need to consume 4 gels per hour. Meanwhile, research conducted at the University of Glasgow says that marathon runners generally need only 2 to 3 gels per hour (46 g to 69 g of carbohydrates), even when the recommended intake is higher. This inability to consume 4 gels in an hour negates the main benefits of the 2:1 gel. Therefore, there are more disadvantages of using 2:1 than benefits. A 2:1 high fructose gel would be very sweet, while athletes keep telling us they don't want a bland gel.
